WILD SWIMMER RAISES £1000 FOR TRUST

Marketing consultant, Chris Liddle from Stocksfield has raised more than £1,000 to support our work to improve the water quality of the Tyne rivers.

Chris who is an outdoor swimming enthusiast and a trustee for Tyne Rivers Trust completed the one-mile open water swim across Lake Windermere and raised more than £1000 for the charity to tackle river pollution.

Chris says: “The river is really important to me and my family and has become even more so during the pandemic. Although the Tyne rivers are in a lot better shape than they used to be, by tackling pollution they could be even better, especially for the water-sports enthusiasts like myself that use them.

“I’d urge anyone who enjoys the river, whether its to swim in or walk the dog along, to raise money for a cause that can directly improve it for everyone.”

The money will help the Trust to reduce pollution in the river by measuring and monitoring water quality to pinpoint areas where pollution is a problem and can be addressed.

Ceri Gibson, Chief Executive Officer of Tyne Rivers Trust says: “As a charity, this kind of fundraising makes a huge difference to the work that we can do. We take a scientific approach to improving the river and this money will help us to make a real difference to water quality.”
