Short for Margaritifera margaritifera (Freshwater Peal Mussel), Salmo salar (salmon) and Salmo truta (trout), these are three of the 150 species set to benefit across England as a result of funding from Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme.
Our MaST project kicked off in September 2023 and takes a targeted catchment based approach to address the multitude of challenges these species face, including excessive input of nutrients and fine sediment, habitat loss and exposure to extreme flows and temperatures. Work will include new woodland and wetland creation, in-river habitat improvements and green engineering techniques to address major sources of fine sediment and agricultural pollution.
With a wealth of knowledge and experience in the team, we’ll be sharing project updates on our social media channels, giving followers and fellow river lovers a closer look into the work behind the scenes done to protect the Tyne rivers and its inhabitants for generations to come.
