River and Flood Management

We use our expertise in geomorphology to work with the natural processes of a river to tackle erosion, reduce the risk of flooding and improve water quality.

We work with both public sector organisations and private landowners to protect a range of assets. This has included repairing problematic riverbank erosion sites and delivering work that improves water quality . We manage the project from start to finish coming up with bespoke designs and delivering all necessary surveys, obtaining required permits and managing contractors to ensure work is carried out successfully and in a way that is safe for both people and the environment.

Where possible, we use green engineering techniques that match the local landscape. In addition, we have in-house skillset to design, manage and deliver a range of natural flood management projects that slow the flow and increase terrestrial water storage in a way that benefits the environment and protects people and property from flooding.

Northumberland County Council Countryside and Green Spaces Team, commenting on a riverbank and footpath repair: “We were looking for a long-term fix for the problem and the designs that RCS developed were ideal for the site and they were a big help in getting all necessary permissions in place. A few years on and the work has withstood some major storms and has completely blended into the landscape.”
