Story Tyne: An Oral History Project
As the voice of the river, we want to showcase and highlight as many stories and memories of the Tyne river from people of all ages for a new oral history project. Could you help us?
We are looking to record the memories of residents around the North Tyne catchment for a new oral history podcast in partnership with Northumberland Archives. To kickstart the project, we’d like to ask residents the following questions to help us collect as many memories as we can.
Think you can help?
Please email our Protected Species Project Manager Yve Martin (y.martin@tyneriverstrust.org) with your answers to the questions below, or introduce yourself and she’ll give you a call to chat more about the project.
- How long have you had a connection with the North Tyne or River Rede?
- What was that connection – as a commuter, a local walker, using the water for fishing or sailing for example?
- What experience do you have of wildlife in the Rivers Tyne or Rede?
- What recollections do you have of the river when you were growing up?
- Have you seen any changes in the wildlife connected with the River?
- Has the course of the river changed in your lifetime?
- Have you ever seen fresh water pearl mussels and/or white claw crayfish in the Tyne?
- What species do you remember seeing in the river in the past?
- Is there anything else special you’d like to tell us about your experience of living or working near the river?
