FISHING REPORT: 20 OCTOBER 2022

The planned essential work to the Riding Mill fish counter was cancelled due to high river levels. It is unlikely the work will take place before 2023 as winter river levels are generally to high for such works to be completed.

The counter at Riding Mill had recorded around 1,000  upstream counts for the month to 17th October.

Anglers are enjoying the best period of fishing this season with good numbers of large salmon to 24lb reported, interestingly whilst the great majority of fish a well coloured and showing signs of maturation, a small number of very fresh silver fish have been caught.

Most anglers are returning their fish. The number of fish ascending the fish counter are expected to be near the annual average count, with the peak of the migration in the summer months.

An example of a lovely Tyne salmon, caught and returned this week.
