James works to reduce the impact of historic metal mining on the Tyne, leading projects across the catchment that include nature-based solutions. His work focuses on preventing the legacy of toxic metal and fine sediment pollution from entering the river.
He gained his PhD in 2018 from the University of Southampton and has since worked in both academia and industry, specialising in sediment, soil and water quality, as well as the use of lake sediments to reconstruct past environmental and climate change.
