Interpretive Signs Are The Finishing Touch
We recently went back to the sites of rain planters and rain water harvesters that we built in South Tyneside.
With the help of our trusty volunteers Brian and John, and Rachel from NECA, we were there to install new interpretive signs that help to explain the purpose of the rain planters and harvesters, and how they work.
It was a lovely day out and as Brian said:
“Many thanks for a marvellous task day on Friday. It was quite an eye opener to see how the users enjoyed the gardens as well the benefits to the wildlife. It also revealed how much work you have done in developing the project from concept. I do hope there are more similar projects to come.”
And right on cue, to provide proof that the rain planters are great for attracting wildlife, we even managed to capture a photograph of a bee on one of our rain planter flowers 🐝.
This was the culmination of the Total River Therapy project which we began in April 2023, and was designed to bring the local community closer to the River Don.
The Total River Therapy project has been funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and also supported by South Tyneside Council. You can find out more about the project here with our Story Map: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9e866eea2a3a478fb0d207f6dd8d1cf8
