Tyne river report
The Riding Mill fish counter recorded 36 upstream counts for the year up to the 8th March. Of the 11 salmon reported but not all confirmed 4 were caught upstream of the counter, the largest a sea liced salmon around 20lbs coming to the net below Hexham.
The water temperature has fallen to 4.5 C following the change in the weather after the warm spell.
It will be interesting to see the effect of the spring tides which peak at 5.52 mtrs on 22nd March.
The brown trout season opens on the 22nd March with the Derwent likely to give the best opportunity of an early season fly hatch (around midday) and some decent wild brownies.
