THANKYOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
Since our last newsletter, our dedicated volunteers have given more than 900 hours of their time to improve the Tyne rivers.
They have planted 5300 hedgerow trees in the North Tyne to create a wonderful wildlife corridor and reduce runoff, completed over 15m of willow spiling along the River Team to reduce sediment and create valuable habitat for invertebrates, and removed hundreds of old tree guards from planting sites to protect against plastic pollution in the catchment as the trees thrive.
We have also restored a wetland near Shotley Bridge along the River Derwent which had started to fill with sediment. We hope to use this site for future education sessions with local schools.
