My Tyne – Adopt a Stream is a new project that engages communities with their streams and rivers through monitoring river health and taking action to conserve and improve them. Community groups, businesses, schools and individuals can adopt a section of stream, and we provide information, training and equipment so the group or individual can care for their stretch.
Key focus areas are:
· Water quality monitoring
· Wildlife recording
· Invasive species recording and removal
· Flooding reporting
· Enjoyment issues such as littering
We will also help groups to resolve issues and improve their adopted stretch of river. Recording of issues and monitoring results will be easily uploadable via our My Tyne app.
We have initial funding to get the project started and we are applying for more funding to roll out the project across the Tyne catchment area.
How to get involved –
Individuals and Groups
Start monitoring your local stretch of river and start recording what you find and tell us about problems! We have a handy app for this. Visit www.mytyne.rocks for more information or download the app and get started!
If you would like to keep an eye on water chemistry you will need to supply you with some kit and a bit of training. Please contact us at mytyne@tyneriverstrust.org and we will arrange a training session.
You can also support the project by helping us to purchase tools and monitoring equipment, provide training, or generally help with the project costs. Please see the sponsorship section below.
Alternatively you could join our regular volunteer activities undertaking a variety of practical works across the catchment from tree planting to invasive species monitoring and removal. If you are interested please see our volunteering page.

We actively acknowledge business support through press releases and on social media.
