Highest recorded upstream counts for May!

The Riding Mill fish counter recorded 1,373 upstream counts up the  29th May. This is the highest count for May since records began, bringing the count for the year-to-date to 1,697 which is the 2nd highest total recorded for this period.

The rivers had a natural increase in flow earlier in the week and fish responded, with 325 fish recorded travelling up-river on Monday, which the video attached to the counter showed to be salmon. These counts are well above average, we hope they continue for the season!

The Derwent is enjoying some good hatches of fly, the mayfly hatches are increasing and trout were feeding on emerging fly yesterday.
